We encourage a thorough scrutiny of the ways we communicate with each other. SMS is a terribly insecure mode of communication that is vulnerable to interception, easy to read by outside adversaries, and trusts phone companies with everything you say. We discourage SMS as much as possible – sorry, flip phone security advocates. Communicate via Signal or other trusted, secure, end to end encrypted messengers. Use them for phone calls as much as possible. Get more suspicious of email communication – be cautious how you use it as a service and understand where its limitations lie.  Any messages that feel off or unsafe – verify with personal contact.  Don’t continue high-risk conversations over email as much as possible. If things feel like you need an extreme level of security around a given communication, figure out how to have an in-person, deviceless meeting.
